Laser Hair Removal
Advances in laser technology as well as a better understanding of laser skin interactions have allowed laser hair removal to become an increasingly popular method of unwanted hair removal. Treatments for laser hair removal at Cheryl's Hair Removal Center and Buffalo Laser Spa can effectively remove unwanted hair from almost any area of the body. Unlike electrolysis, a time consuming treatment program that works to kill each hair follicle individually, laser hair removal is fast and easy because it can treat and remove hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously.

How Does It Work?
Lasers used for laser hair removal treatments produce a highly concentrated beam of light which is directed over the treatment (skin) area. There are a number of different lasers that can be utilized for this procedure; each is unique based on the wavelength of light it emits. The laser technicians here at Cheryl's will use different light wavelengths depending on the patient's hair and skin type. The key to the effectiveness on the hair follicles is the laser's light.
Each laser emits light and produces specific and controlled pulses of energy which are delivered to the follicles of the hair. When the laser light is passed over the skin's surface, the hair follicles beneath the surface absorb the emitted light. The pulse of energy plus the absorption of light causes vaporization of the follicle pigment which leads to significant impediment and sometimes even overall elimination of hair re-growth.
The lasers effectiveness is wholly based on the principle of Selective Photothermolysis. Selective Photothermolysis is a principle that pertains to the effectiveness of the laser light during the procedure. When performed correctly, the laser light will pass through the outer layers of skin to the hair follicles below without damaging the skin cells. Our laser technicians can adjust the pulse width (the amount of time the laser is on) so that the laser light passes safely through the skin to the follicles below. When this is done properly, the laser light will not affect the skin tissue surrounding the treated area.
Cheryl's Hair Removal Center and Buffalo Laser Spa can treat any skin type form skin type I to skin type VI.
Does It Hurt?
Patients generally describe a mild discomfort associated with the procedure; most say it is similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. During the procedure, all lasers have some sort of cooling device implemented, such as a cooling gel or spray. The coolant will be emitted directly before the laser pulse to ensure maximum comfort and protection. If patients still experience discomfort. Although cooling devices are in place to protect the skin, patients can still experience redness in the treated area. If redness occurs, it will most likely subside within a few hours, but most patients do not experience any redness at all.
What Results Can I Expect?
When undergoing laser hair removal procedures at Buffalo Laser Spa, Inc., patients should not expect immediate results. Most will need several treatments in order to effectively disable the hair follicles. The number of treatments needed, will depend largely on skin type and coarseness and color of hair. Laser hair removal can require patients to have anywhere from five to nine treatments, but some might need as many as 10 or 12 treatments over a 18 to 24 month period. Most laser hair removal treatments have been over 90% effective for impeding hair growth; some have even completely eradicated all hair growth in the treated area.
An important aspect to consider; many clinics lack proper training and experience which potentially can lead to poor treatment quality and even burning and permanent scarring from the treatment. Another unknow issue to the public is the lack of proper maintenance on equipment. Manufacturers charge anywhere from $500.00 to $1000.00 per month to have a proper maintenance agreement. Most companies buy secondary service contracts that are both lacking in original equipment replacement parts and servicing.
